1920's - 1940's Half moon manicure !

           

I have always wanted to try the half moon manicure look but have been putting it off by just how complicated it looks. When I looked into the process I saw that their was a few ways to make it a lot easier ! This look became popular in the 1920's where the lunula ( the crescent shape most people have at the bottom of their nail) was left bare. Another style that was popular during the 1920's was to leave the tip of your nail bare as well as the Lunula. This look was worn by the likes of Rita Hayworth,Marlene Dietrich,Carole Lombard and still to this day Dita Von Teese and fellow blogger Idda Van Munster.

The colours of the day from the 1920's were deep reds. In the 1950's we saw brands such as Maybeline and Revlon in chemists/drug stores giving women more variety of colours. We also saw the birth of the acrylic nail, invented by a dentist. He broke his nail and decided to cover it with an acrylic solution from his dental kit.Other manicures such as the french manicure did not become popular till the 1970's. And Pastels and Neon were not around till the 1960's and 1980's.

The method I used was one that I found online, by using circle stickers and covering the Lunula of the nail. Then painting of with your color of choice.

And anther way it so fake till you make it. I got this image from and Etsy page. These are the perfect shape and length for an authentic half moon manicure. I have also seen Dita Von Teese has done a collaboration with Kiss cosmetics. For people wanting to achieve her look.

How mine turned out, I'm rather happy for my first try.
